Age Requirement for Life Jackets

If you are in a boat less than 21 feet long and lying between November 1 and May 1, you will also need to wear a life jacket, regardless of your age.

Fines range from $25 to $100. In states where there is no law for children`s life jackets, a transitional U.S. Coast Guard rule requires children under the age of 13 who board moving boats to wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket that suits them.
